Sindyanna of Galilee - Jan/Feb/March 2015 Newsletter

It's been a while since we last sent out a newsletter. No good excuses except that we've been very busy working on getting our products into new markets, expanding the circle of those who know about Sindyanna, and in general, trying to promote our mission of social change through fair trade and Arab-Jewish cooperation.

Our new branding and web site have also been keeping us up at night. You may have seen the short email we sent about this a few weeks ago when our site went live. If not, go check it out right now at www.sindyanna.com and let us know what you think.

Late breaking news – our olive oil has just won another international award. This time we received the Extra Gold Medal from the Italian Biol International Prize!

So without further ado, we'll move right over to all the updates that have been piling up since the beginning of the year.

Yours as always,
Hadas Lahav

#WORK

At the beginning of February our team met at our Oasis organic olive grove in Wadi Ara with Dr. Yizhar Tugendhaft, Training Director at the Israel Bio-Organic Agriculture Association (IBOAA), who trained us on organic methods of pest control. This weekend we're holding a work day during which our volunteers will help set up biological control traps for the olive fruit flies that can damage our trees. These traps are completely organic and environmentally friendly and are an excellent substitute for the poisonous insecticide sprays that are typically used in agricultural fields.

We also placed cages to host barn owls that can protect our groves from rodents. Thanks to Motti Charter and his Bird Box project!

#VISITORS CENTER

Our team is hard at work on our new Kfar Kana visitors center that is expected to open in May. The center will host training workshops for women, as well as an olive oil center and a fair trade shop featuring our products alongside the handicrafts of Palestinian women. We recently had a special visit from the Department of Visual Communications at the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design. The students are going to help us design and brand the center as part of the final project for their Bachelor of Design degrees.

#ZA'ATAR

The Za'atar grown by Habib in the fields of Eilabun in the Galilee is the best in the world so of course, we use it as the basis for the Za'atar Sindyanna sells around the world. You can see one yummy  example of how to use this excellent herb in this chef's recipe video.
