Sindyanna of Galilee – January 2014 Newsletter

Dear friends of Sindyanna,

I hope your year is off to as great a start as ours is! So much work and so many activities – new awards, new partners, new volunteers, new courses, and much much more.

While all of this makes for a very busy schedule for the Sindyanna team, it also makes us all that much prouder of what we've managed to achieve and of our plans for this year.

I hope that each month in 2014 will bring as many news items as you'll find in the packed newsletter below, so let's get to it!

Yours as always,

Hadas Lahav

Volunteer Day at the Scottish Grove

On Saturday, Feb. 22 we'll be holding a work day at the Scottish grove together with the Scottish church. We invite all our friends to help us weed the grove and plant za'atar between the trees. For those of you who can't make it, look for an update in next month's newsletter.

New Weaving Courses at our Visitor Center

The basket weaving courses we've been holding at our visitor center continue as usual, with a new one opening up several times a year. And the demand for our lovely baskets continues. In fact, we just shipped a new batch to our Japanese partners Kagoami.

To give you a taste, we interviewed one of our participants, Fatmah Haj (Um Ihab), who decided to join our course when she was 71 years old. It's never too late to start!

We also recently begain a special cooperative project with the BE LONGING(S) studio, after the interdisciplinary artist Noa Bar-Lev Davidor contacted our center to order a special item: a bird’s nest woven out of palm fronds. Read more about the story of this project on our site.

Updates from our Partners Around the World

So many wonderful people who are working against the occupation and for social change in Israel. If you would like to work with us but don't know how, take a look at the RMT example:

The RMT (Rail, Maritime and Transport) Union in the UK recently received a shipment of 500 olive oil bottles and 1000 bars of olive oil soap from Sindyanna. Their label says it all:

The latest addition to our ever growing list of shops that sell our products is Zetouna, a shop in Buffalo, NY (and online) that, besides a selection of olive oil and other products, now features our olive oil soaps.

We were recently visited by our Swedish partner IM Fair Trade. Their Fair Trade shop, Individuell Människohjälp, in Lund sells Sindyanna’s products including our organic olive oil and olive oil soaps.

Besides the partners who sell our fair trade olive oil around the world (see first item above), we also have partners who use our olive oil in their wonderful products such as Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap and LUSH.
