Sindyanna of Galilee – Nov/Dec 2013 Newsletter

Dear friends of Sindyanna,

I can't believe another year is already over. 2013 has been so full of activities that it seems to have passed in a blink of an eye. So let me take this opportunity to wish you a happy new year.

May the new year provide us all with some quiet time for reflection upon our goals and aspirations – to quote our greeting card from last year "equality, peace and genuine democracy for all people."

Reflections aside, below you will find a round-up of our past activities and future events. We hope you can join us, physically or virtually, as part of the group of wonderful people we like to call our friends.

Yours as always,

Hadas Lahav

Wonderful New Olive Oil for Sale

The olive oil season is nearly at its end. In early November our friends gathered for the first picking of olives at our organic grove in Ard al-Roha in Wadi Ara, and the resulting oil is both fragrant and delicious! You can buy your bottle of our extra virgin olive oil around the world through one of our Fair Trade partners.

Meeting the World at Sindyanna

Insaf, 32 years old and mother to two toddlers, works at the Sindyanna of Galilee Visitor Center at Kufr Manda. She originally came here to learn to weave baskets in order to improve her income, joined a mixed learning group of Arab and Jewish women, and before long she was teaching the craft to women in the village and elsewhere.

Read the interview to learn more about the people you can meet at our visitor center. We host individuals, families and groups for various courses and workshops which enable Arab women from the Galilee region to learn new skills of personal and professional empowerment.

Two Exciting December Events

First, we invite you to a discussion on integrating Arab women into Israel’s labor market. The evening is organized in the framework of the Project Fair Trade, Fair Peace, funded by the European Union. "Fair Trade, Fair Employment – For integrating Arab women into the Israeli labor market" will be held Sunday, Dec. 22, 18:00–22:00 at Tel Aviv University, Naftali Building, Hall 001. More information can be found on the event's Facebook page.

Second, the annual Bread and Roses art-sale exhibition is happening at the end of the month. It benefits "Women and Work," a project by the Workers Advice Center (WAC-MAAN) and the Sindyanna of Galilee Fair Trade Association. The exhibition will take place on Friday, December 27, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., and again on Saturday, December 28, between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m., at the Kastiel As Is complex, Alfassi St. 36, Tel Aviv-Jaffa. You can find more information on the Bread and Roses web site.
